If your business runs a WordPress website, today’s PHP security announcement deserves immediate attention. Two critical vulnerabilities could allow attackers to run malicious code on affected servers without logging in. Security updates are now available.

Your next step is to have your hosting provider or website developer confirm that the PHP software running your website has received the fixes.

What happened?

On October 21, the PHP development team released emergency security updates addressing CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619. Both vulnerabilities received a critical severity rating of 9.2 out of 10.

PHP is the software that processes WordPress behind the scenes. When someone visits your website, PHP helps generate pages and run features such as forms, customer accounts, and online shopping.

The newly disclosed flaws involve how PHP handles memory and information between requests. Under certain conditions, attackers can exploit these weaknesses to execute their own code with the permissions of the website’s server process. The precise exposure depends on the hosting configuration and application.

Why is this a problem for your business?

Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to change website files, access information available to the website, install malicious software, or interrupt service. The damage depends on the server’s permissions and the information it can access.

For a business, that could mean lost leads, unavailable booking forms, disrupted online sales, or customers encountering harmful content on your domain.

Your website may still look normal while running vulnerable software. Being affected does not automatically mean your website has already been hacked. It means the exposure needs to be addressed promptly.

Will updating WordPress fix it?

Updating WordPress alone does not install these PHP security fixes.

The problem exists in the underlying PHP runtime. Your hosting provider or server administrator needs to apply the appropriate PHP update. The PHP security announcement identifies multiple hosting environments as potentially affected, including PHP-FPM, Apache mod_php, and LiteSpeed.

WordPress, theme, and plugin updates remain part of good maintenance, but they are a separate responsibility.

What should website owners do now?

1. Ask your host to confirm the security patches

Send your hosting provider this question:

Has the PHP runtime serving my website been patched for CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619? Please confirm the installed version or vendor security package.

The PHP project released these patched versions:

PHP branchSecurity release
PHP 8.28.2.35
PHP 8.38.3.36
PHP 8.48.4.27
PHP 8.58.5.12

Some hosting vendors apply security fixes to their existing packages, so the displayed version number may require additional verification. PHP 8.1 and older no longer receive regular updates from the PHP project; ask about vendor coverage or moving to a supported version.

2. Back up and test your website

Before making changes, create a backup of your website’s files and database. If you use a backup plugin such as UpdraftPlus, you can use it to create the backup, then download all backup components to your computer so you have a copy outside your hosting account.

If you suspect your website is already compromised, keep this backup separate from older backups that may contain a clean version of your website. Coordinate the backup with your hosting provider so it does not delay urgent patching.

After the PHP update, test the features your business depends on:

  • Contact forms and email notifications
  • Online checkout and payments
  • Appointment booking
  • Customer account access
  • Administrative tools

Have your hosting provider confirm that the patched PHP runtime is active across every website and relevant server process.

3. Investigate suspicious activity separately

If you have noticed unexpected redirects, unfamiliar administrator accounts, or files that return after deletion, request a security investigation.

Installing a patch closes the addressed vulnerability. It does not remove malicious files or unauthorized access that may already exist.

4. Do not rely on a temporary workaround

The PHP team states that configuration changes can reduce certain attack paths but do not provide complete protection. Applying the security update is the complete remedy for these flaws.

Already using webpopular hosting?

If your website is hosted through hosting.webpopular.net, call 480-624-2500 for 24/7 hosting support.

Ask support to verify that your website’s PHP environment has been patched for CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 and help apply any required updates.

Afterward, test your website’s essential functions to confirm everything continues working as expected.

Need help getting it resolved?

You do not need to manage a server to take the right next step.

Customer testimonials are one of the most effective ways to build trust, improve conversions, and boost your SEO. But here’s the problem: most testimonial solutions on WordPress look outdated, feel clunky, and don’t fully leverage the power of modern integrations.

At webpopular, we’ve developed a custom WordPress testimonials plugin that’s built for today’s web — and it’s designed to make your brand stand out in search results, attract more leads, and convert more customers.

The Problem with Outdated Testimonial Tools

Lack of trust

Visitors can’t verify if reviews are real.

Poor SEO impact

Most plugins don’t include structured data for star ratings.

Outdated design

Clunky layouts make your site look less professional.

1. Modern, Beautiful, and Built for WordPress

Our custom plugin is designed to look modern and seamless on your site — no bulky blocks, no clunky widgets. It matches your brand style and integrates perfectly into your existing design, making your testimonials look like they belong there, not like an afterthought.

2. Authentic Reviews That Build Trust

Unlike most testimonial tools, our plugin connects directly to Google Reviews. That means every review displayed on your site is authenticated, which instantly boosts credibility. When visitors see real, verified reviews from your Google Business Profile, they trust your business more — and trust leads to conversions.

3. SEO That Gives You an Edge

This is where our plugin really stands out. We’ve built in structured data that tells Google to display your review star ratings directly in search results. That means:

  • Your business stands out visually in search results
  • Click-through rates improve
  • Trust is built before visitors even land on your site

Most testimonial plugins don’t include this feature — and without it, you’re missing out on one of the easiest ways to improve SEO visibility.

4. Why Having Testimonials on Your Site Matters

Adding customer testimonials to your website isn’t just about looking good — it’s a conversion strategy.

Benefits include:

  • Boosted credibility — Visitors are more likely to choose you over competitors.
  • Improved conversion rates — Social proof drives decisions.

Stronger SEO performance — With the right plugin, you can leverage schema to get noticed.

5. Why Our Plugin Does It Better

Here’s why our WordPress plugin beats the outdated options:

  • Modern, mobile-friendly design that integrates seamlessly
  • Built-in schema markup for review stars in Google search
  • Easy-to-manage dashboard for adding, curating, and showcasing reviews
  • No unnecessary bloat or code that slows down your site

It’s everything you need to showcase real reviews, earn trust, and increase conversions — all in one tool.

Testimonials and Reviews WordPress Plugin

The Bottom Line

Your potential customers want proof. Adding testimonials to your website — especially verified Google reviews — builds trust, improves SEO, and drives more leads. But outdated tools hold you back.

Our custom WordPress testimonials plugin is built to make your reviews look better, work harder, and help your business grow.

How Can webpopular Help?

We don’t just build websites — we create strategies that help your business grow. Our testimonials plugin is one of many tools we’ve developed to improve conversion rates, enhance SEO, and make your brand stand out online.

Your website is often the first impression people have of your business — and first impressions stick. Unfortunately, many businesses unknowingly turn customers away with slow load times, confusing navigation, or outdated design. Here are the five most common website mistakes we see — and how to fix them so your site works as hard as you do.

1. Slow Load Times

Online visitors aren’t patient. If your site takes more than a few seconds to load, potential customers are likely to click away before they ever see what you offer. Slow load times are often caused by large image files, poorly optimized code, or outdated hosting.

How to fix it:

  • Compress images without losing quality
  • Use a reliable hosting provider
  • Enable browser caching and content delivery networks (CDNs)

Audit your site regularly for speed performance

2. Confusing Navigation

If visitors can’t quickly find the information they need, they’ll leave — and possibly head straight to your competitor. Navigation should be simple, intuitive, and consistent across every page.

How to fix it:

  • Limit top-level menu items to 5–7 clear categories
  • Use descriptive labels instead of vague terms
  • Keep important pages (services, contact, about) within one click from the homepage
  • Test your site’s navigation with real users to spot problem areas

3. Outdated or Unattractive Design

A dated website can make even the best business look unprofessional. Design trends change, and so do user expectations. An outdated look can signal to visitors that your business isn’t keeping up — even if that’s not true.

How to fix it:

  • Give your content it’s space so it’s not competing with other content
  • Use a clean, modern layout with high-quality images
  • Ensure your branding is consistent across all pages
  • Avoid clutter by focusing on what your customer needs to know

4. Not Mobile-Friendly

With the majority of web traffic now coming from mobile devices, a site that doesn’t look or function well on phones is guaranteed to lose customers. Mobile responsiveness also affects your Google search rankings.

How to fix it:

  • Use a responsive design that adapts to all screen sizes
  • Test your site on multiple devices and browsers
  • Make buttons and forms easy to use on small screens
  • Keep mobile navigation simple and thumb-friendly
The webpopular.net process

5. Weak or No SEO

A beautiful site won’t help if no one can find it. Without search engine optimization (SEO), your site may be invisible to potential customers actively looking for your services.

How to fix it:

  • Research and use keywords your customers actually search for
  • Optimize meta titles, descriptions, and headings
  • Add fresh, relevant content regularly through a blog or resource section
  • Ensure your site loads quickly and is mobile-friendly for better ranking signals

Why Fixing These Mistakes Matters

These five mistakes can:

  • Drive away potential customers before they even call or visit
  • Lower your Google rankings, making it harder to be found
  • Make your brand look less trustworthy or professional
  • Waste your marketing dollars by sending traffic to a site that doesn’t convert

Every business deserves a scalable website that connects with their audience.

Your website is the cornerstone of your business’s ability to engage with customers, grow with your needs, and achieve long-term success. A well-built website isn’t just an online presence—it’s a powerful tool that drives business growth and enhances customer experience.

Why does having a great website matter?

A great website is crucial for several reasons:

  • First impressions and credibility: Your website is often the first interaction potential customers have with your brand. A professional, well-organized website builds trust and credibility right from the start.

  • User experience and engagement: A website that’s easy to navigate and enjoyable to use keeps visitors engaged, encouraging them to explore more of what you offer.

  • Conversion rates and business growth: An optimized website with clear calls to action turns visitors into customers, directly impacting your bottom line.

  • Supporting your marketing strategy: Your website is the hub for all your digital marketing efforts, from content marketing to social media campaigns. It amplifies these efforts and makes them more effective.

  • Efficient processes: A well-designed website streamlines operations, automating tasks like scheduling, lead generation, and customer support.

Common problems with small business websites

Many small businesses struggle with website issues that hinder their success:

  • Limited capabilities, unable to grow with business: Websites often lack the functionality needed to scale with the business, limiting growth opportunities.

  • Limited control of website: Relying on platforms with restricted customization options prevents full control over your site’s look, feel, and functionality.

  • Rent their website and/or marketing: Renting a website or marketing services can be expensive without adding lasting value to your business.

  • High maintenance fees with no investment in the website: Paying high fees for outdated websites that don’t improve over time is a common problem.

  • Busy or too much content: Cluttered layouts and overwhelming content can confuse visitors and detract from the user experience.

  • Not mobile-friendly: With more users accessing the web on mobile devices, a non-responsive website means lost opportunities.

  • Content doesn’t reflect brand: Inconsistent or poorly crafted content weakens your brand’s message and fails to resonate with your audience.

In the era of digital business, choosing the right platform for your website or online store is a pivotal decision. WordPress and Shopify are two of the most prominent names in this sphere, each boasting its own unique features and advantages. This comprehensive comparison will shed light on various aspects of these platforms, such as functionality, ease of use, customizability, SEO, pricing, and customer support, to help you make an informed decision.

https://webpopular.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/WordPress-VS-Shopify-Social-Ad.jpg

Introduction

WordPress: WordPress is a highly versatile open-source content management system (CMS), powering over 40% of all websites on the internet. It’s known for its flexibility, allowing users to create anything from simple blogs to complex e-commerce stores, primarily through the WooCommerce plugin.

Shopify: Shopify is a dedicated e-commerce platform, designed to help businesses create online stores with ease. It provides an all-in-one solution, encompassing everything from product listing and inventory management to payment gateway integration and shipping logistics.

Customizability

WordPress: When it comes to customization, WordPress stands unrivaled. The availability of thousands of themes and plugins allows for limitless design possibilities. And if you’re comfortable with coding, you can tailor your site to your heart’s content.

Shopify: Shopify offers a range of professionally designed themes, both free and paid. While it allows for customizations like changing colors, fonts, and layouts, it doesn’t provide as much creative freedom as WordPress. Also, making advanced customizations on Shopify typically requires knowledge of Shopify’s own coding language, Liquid.

Ease of Use

WordPress: WordPress has a somewhat steeper learning curve, primarily due to its extensive functionality. While it might take some time to learn the ropes, the availability of countless online tutorials and a large user community makes this task easier.

Shopify: Shopify is designed with usability in mind, even for those without any coding or technical knowledge. Its intuitive interface, pre-designed templates, and drag-and-drop builder make setting up and managing an online store a breeze.

Functionality

WordPress: WordPress is a powerhouse of functionality. It offers over 55,000 plugins, enabling you to add virtually any feature you can imagine to your site. Through the WooCommerce plugin, you can transform your WordPress site into a full-featured online store.

Shopify: As a dedicated e-commerce platform, Shopify excels in providing out-of-the-box e-commerce functionality. It covers all aspects of running an online store, from secure checkout and shipping options to sales analytics and inventory management. It also offers a range of add-on apps to extend your store’s functionality.

The importance of SEO

SEO Capabilities

WordPress: With the right SEO plugin (like Yoast SEO), you can make your WordPress site highly SEO-friendly. You can control every SEO aspect, from meta tags and titles to XML sitemaps and schema markup.

Shopify: Shopify provides built-in SEO features, such as editable title tags, meta descriptions, URLs, and alt texts for images. However, compared to WordPress, it offers less granular control over SEO.

Pricing

WordPress: WordPress itself is free, but you’ll need to pay for website hosting, which typically ranges from $3 to $30 a month for most sites. Premium themes and plugins may add to your costs, but there are many free options that provide robust functionality.

Shopify: Shopify operates on a monthly subscription model, with plans starting at $29/month. This cost includes hosting, SSL certificate, and access to all the basic e-commerce features. Higher-tier plans offer additional features like gift cards, professional reports, and lower transaction fees.

Customer Support

WordPress: As an open-source platform, WordPress doesn’t offer official customer support. However, the robust WordPress community offers numerous forums, blogs, tutorials, and guides to help users troubleshoot issues.

Shopify: Shopify provides 24/7 customer support through email, live chat, and phone. It also offers comprehensive documentation and community forums for additional support.

Conclusion

In choosing between WordPress and Shopify, consider your website’s purpose and your technical expertise. If you’re looking to create a highly customized website or blog with optional e-commerce functionality, and you don’t mind a learning curve, WordPress with WooCommerce could be the ideal choice.

On the other hand, if your primary goal is to set up an online store with ease and you prefer a straightforward, all-inclusive package, Shopify would be your go-to platform.

Remember, both platforms are highly effective in their own right. Your unique business needs and personal preferences will ultimately determine which one is the best fit for you.
